Yesterday was a great day. Finally, my new band project is coming together. I was gutted when DNF had to disband and I really wanted to carry on, but now I can see that maybe some good has come of all this. I loved playing in DNF, but I kept a lot of my song ideas to myself because I thought that it wouldn't fit with what the band was all about. So, now I've finally had the chance to work on my own songs. I had lyrics, melodies and a few chords here and there, so with the help of a few friends the songs have finally come together.
Yesterday I went up to the Blue Mountains to record two demo tracks from my upcoming band project - Graffiti Dragons. The two tracks I recorded are exactly the kind of music that I wanted to make. The first track, "Resurrected" is a rock song all about being in a bad place in your life, and then learning how to move forward. The second song "Waiting" is a lot softer and more mellow, and this song has been in the making for six years. When my Nan passed away in 2005, I wrote a song about how I felt. No music, just lyrics. And this year, with the passing of my childhood dog, I rewrote the lyrics and had some help putting the chords together. The song is all about coping with the loss of a loved one - which is something we can all relate to.
Also, in my previous band I played bass, but this time I'll be singing. I've never sung in a band before (apart from a few back-up vocals here and there) but I've been having lessons and they truly have paid off. So, yesterday we tracked vox, bass and guitars. A friend of mine is currently mixing the tracks, and I can't wait to upload them and let everyone have a listen to my music.
