# 35 In Between

In Between is a very different and unique track. When I was studying in 2007, I was undertaking a course in communication and media, and I one of my projects was making a short film. I was put in a group, and we ended up doing a detective/crime short film, and I enjoyed it so much, I tried to make my own animated film. But what to make it about? I was creating a short film based around the song "In Between." I designed a character, much like Shadowy Guy, and the short film was all about him wanting to apologize for the wrong he had done, but finding it hard to summon the right words. Unfortunately, I never finished the short film, and I lost all animation slides when my PC died back in 2009. However, I knew that for this next painting, I wanted to incorporate my ideas from the short film, and re-use them in my artwork.

"In Between"

So I started off by putting strips of masking tape onto the canvas, and I have to tell you, it must have been budget masking tape because trying to break off a solid piece was hard work. After painting the image, I peeled away the masking tape to reveal unpainted canvas. I did this because it's almost like taking off a layer and seeing the skeleton beneath. Since the song is about dishonestly and lies, I thought this was quite fitting, which is why I decided to paint it this way.
