My Childhood Dog

I've had my dog Sassy since I was eight years old, so it's fair to say, she's been a big part of my life.

However, today I found out she very sick and has only been given weeks to live. At first, I felt numb and couldn't really comprehend what was being said to me. But now it's hit me like a ton of bricks, and I know that Sassy's time is almost up. At the moment, she's in no pain, but she could turn at any moment. I'm trying to do what I can to make Sassy comfortable, but these days all she wants is to sleep and eat. It's hard seeing my dog go from being so active and happy to what she has become in just the last few weeks.

But looking on the positive side, she's fifteen and a half years old. Sassy is a german short-haired pointer, and her life expectancy is between 10 and 12 years, so she's done very well. The vet also said she has lived this long because she's been happy and loved, which makes all the difference. Also, Sassy almost died at twelve weeks old, so to have her all this time after is quite something.

Today I've been looking through some photographs I've taken of my dog, and just looking over them now makes me realize how tough the next few weeks are going to be.
